Mohammad Tawbi

Who founded Adabi Club?

Adabi Club was founded by Mohammad Tawbi, who holds a Master's degree in Arabic Language and Literature and has spent 18 years in teaching.

Over those years he kept seeing the same thing: students memorising a rule to pass an exam and then forgetting it, reading a text without enjoying it, and writing without finding their own voice. So he set out to build what he could not find: a curriculum that teaches Arabic the way it is lived, not the way it is memorised.

“We don’t make you memorise Arabic… we teach you to think in it.”

Academic committee

The curriculum and its content were built with a committee of specialists in teaching Arabic:

  • Fouad Tawbi

  • Kamal Hassan

  • Ibrahim Merhi, poet

  • Hadaya Merhi

How we built the curriculum

  • We design our own content: Adabi Club designs its own lessons, activities and exercises, built around the skills and learning outcomes students need in their school grade, so it supports and deepens what they learn at school.

  • We start from learning outcomes: we set what students must master by the end of each stage, then build the lessons grade by grade towards that goal.

  • Planned, graded vocabulary: every unit has a list of target words that comes back and is built on in later units.

  • All four skills together: listening, speaking, reading and writing are not taught separately; they come together in every lesson around one text.

  • Drawing on well-known frameworks and standards for language teaching, adapted to today’s students.

What happens in a lesson?

Lessons are designed for independent learning, without the need for a live teacher. In every grade, from the first letter to analysing a poem, a lesson follows three steps:

  1. I show you: the lesson starts from a real text (a story, an informational text or a poem) and introduces the skill through it in a clear video presentation.

  2. We practise together: guided practice, step by step, showing students why an answer is right.

  3. You try on your own: graded interactive exercises with instant feedback, repeated until the skill is mastered.

Questions in every lesson move from recall, to understanding and inference, then critical thinking and personal response. Grammar rules are never memorised in isolation: students discover them in the text, then use them in their own speaking and writing.

Learning stages by grade

  • Grade 1, sound and reading foundations: every letter has a character named after its sounds, like Baboobi the duck and Tatooti the crocodile. Children learn each letter with its short and long sounds together and trace it with their own hand in the exercises, until they read their first short texts.

  • Grades 2 and 3, from reading to understanding: from reading words to understanding texts, from the sentence to the connected paragraph, with the first language rules learned in context.

  • Grades 4 to 6, analysis and writing: functional grammar, appreciating poetry and prose and giving a personal view, and complete compositions of different kinds.

The Grade 1 course is available now. Lessons for Grades 2 to 6 are being released progressively, and subscribers get every new lesson as soon as it is published.
